Design & Engineering
Good design is critical to both the form and function of a building. Well-designed homes are beautiful and a joy to live in. They are cherished, maintained and renovated through the generations. Poorly-designed homes are a waste of resources; they will soon be obsolete and torn down to make way for better designs. We strive to design and build homes that no one will even think about tearing down.
Plans come to us in many forms, from the back of a napkin to huge rolls of blueprints.
Full set of architectural plans
For our clients who need a full set of architectural plans, we create them using Autocad and Google Sketchup. Our in-house design team consists of Adam Riley and Alan Klagge. Adam has a degree in civil engineering and 15 years experience designing and building heavy timber structures. Alan is a jack of all trades and master of a few, including Autocad, Sketchup, cabinet-making and his favorite, fly fishing.
EcoNest Homes
For our clients who want to go to the next level of healthy, sustainable building, we work with the talented folks at Baker-Laporte and Associates who design Econest homes. For our clients who have plans for their homes and need only engineered shop drawings, we produce accurate and detailed 3-D models of their frames. We then work with our favorite engineers who ensure the structure adequately resists the design loads of the site and then stamp the plans for permitting and construction.
Throughout the design and engineering process we are mindful of construction costs. We try to educate our clients to make informed decisions about design features and levels of finish that will allow them to finish the project in within their desired budget.
Both Fire Tower Engineered Timber of Providence, RI, and Fearless Engineers of Missoula, MT, are licensed in the states in which we build. They are both top-notch engineering firms who specialize in heavy timber construction and they are a joy to work with.
